Welder fitter

Description:

Will help to lay-out, fit, and weld fabricated, cast, forged, steel, aluminum and stainless steel components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, structural and or piping components.

Responsibilites:

Must be reliable and dependable.

Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, and rulers.

Recognize, set up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

Bolts, clamps, and tack-weld parts to secure in the position for welding.

Sets up equipment and weld parts (FCAW. SMAW" GTAW).

Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges to templates to ensure conformance with specification, recommended practices, and standards.

Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.

Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.

Monitor the fitting, burning. and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

Education and Training:

High school education or equivalent; 3 - 5 years related experience or training; or combination of education and experience.

Strong math skills

Shop skills include welding and blueprint reading

Experience with structural and pipe fabrication.
