Job Summary: Sets up and programs robots and adjusts measurements as needed. The role of Robot Programmer also services as a Robot Operator .

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of fixtures and operating robotic welding machines is preferred (Ideally Miller, Lincoln or OTC models for steel/aluminum welding.)
  • Ability to read a tape measure to fractions and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Completes training for programming of one or more robot models. Knows all safe robot manipulations.
  • Selects correct program from approved program listing and maintains strict controls over program file management (saving/deleting/revising).
  • Sets up and operates robotic welders to produce quality parts. Knows weld acceptance criteria for steel and aluminum.
  • Records all operational issues in Logbook and follows troubleshooting procedures.
  • Knows and follows protocol for who/when to call for assistance with operational issues.
  • Adjusts machinery (program touch-up for rework) as needed to maintain part quality.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of fixtures and equipment to maintain good working order. Schedules maintenance work as needed with the Maintenance Department.
  • Completes mechanical changeovers as needed.
  • Proficient at changing fixtures, programs, and robot changeover from Aluminum to Steel.
  • Completes 3rd Party training on programming for one or more robot models.
  • Capable of designing programs for new or existing products.
  • Creates new standard weld file types.
  • Utilizes a common trouble shooting approaches, troubleshoots the difference between material variation, fixture variation, robot position (& associated equipment issues), and programs weld parameter issues as needed to deliver proper weld placement and proper weld quality.
  • Implements improvements to programs and/or fixtures to reduce total cycle time.
  • Standardizes weld parameters across programs to optimize quality and total cycle time.
  • Utilizes IQMS to correctly identify parts, determines part locations, checks inventory, closes out orders and other daily functions.
  • Professionally communicates production issues, seeks clarification and resolution from front line employees and management.
  • Performs tasks safely including wearing safety glasses and gloves as described in JHA requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Extensive use with power/hand tools.
  • Requires visual acuity to access details (I.e., prints, parts, work orders, etc.)
  • Requires communication skills so ideas and instructions can be given clearly and/or quickly and understood.
  • Requires the ability to distinguish between speech, machinery, and other sounds to understand instructions and/or directions.
