Job Description
Responsibilities will cover a variety of tasks related to welding engineering, quality execution, and project management for Elessent equipment and components. This role bridges metallurgy/welding depth with supplier quality and schedule/cost delivery. This role will be hands-on with shops and vendors while coordinating internally across Engineering, PM, Supply Chain, and Field Services. Rapid ramp-up on Elessent technologies is expected. PLC/HMI familiarity is recommended.
Core Responsibilities
Welding Engineering
- Develop, approve, and govern WPS/PQRs; plan and witness procedure and performance qualifications to ASME IX / AWS as applicable.
- Author and approve heat treatment, PWHT, and weld repair procedures; control heat input for corrosion-resistant materials.
- Interpret and approve NDE (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) to code/spec/drawing acceptance criteria; manage third-party NDE execution quality.
- Solve weld/corrosion problems: failure analysis, root cause, corrective actions; advise on material selection and fabrication sequencing for alloys and FRP interfaces.
- Train suppliers and internal teams on welding best practices and special material handling.
Quality Engineering
- Create and execute Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), pre inspection meetings, surveillance plans, and release-for-shipment criteria.
- Lead supplier quality activities: incoming material MTR review, PMI/positive material ID, traceability, dimensional inspection, document packs.
- Drive NCR/CAPA using 8D/5 Why; trend defects and close systemic issues; implement MSA (measurement system analysis) where critical.
- Audit fabrication shops to applicable standards (e.g., ASME VIII Div.1, ASME IX, B31.3, ISO 9001, ISO 3834); develop supplier improvement plans.
Project Management
- Manage Equipment projects, end to end: scope, schedule, cost, risk; set baselines and manage changes (ECR/ECN or equivalent).
- Coordinate with Engineering for drawings/specs; with Supply Chain for bids/POs/expediting; with QA/NDE for hold points; with Logistics for packing/shipping.
- Manage vendors' scope, quality, and schedule
- Provide manufacturing support for equipment in the shop or in the field as required
- Develop competitive costing solution for Stainless Steel equipment manufacturing
- Prepare and run FAT/SAT as needed; manage customer/field coordination; deliver turnover dossiers and data books.
- When a regional PM exists, partner as the technical/quality execution lead; when none, act as standalone PM.
- Support the sales team in developing proposals and global solutions for our customers.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Welding, Materials/Metallurgical, or Mechanical Engineering with strong welding emphasis. PE licensure nice to have. Preference given for inspection qualifications.
- CWI or IWE/EWE — required.
- 5–10 years in fabrication of pressure equipment/piping/vessels/heat exchangers in petroleum/chemical or equivalent heavy industry. (Exceptional 3–5 year candidates considered with strong shop experience plus WPS/PQR authorship and small order delivery.)
- Working command of ASME VIII Div.1, ASME IX, ASME B31.3, AWS D1.x; familiarity with API 650/510/570, ISO 3834, and NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
- Proven authorship and approval of WPS/PQRs; hands-on welder qualification and shop floor problem-solving.
- Authority to approve NDE dispositions (VT/PT/MT/UT/RT) to code/spec/drawing acceptance criteria.
- Project management experience (2–5 years) running small industrial equipment orders; proficiency with MS Project or equivalent scheduling tool and ERP/MRP.
- Strong technical writing; able to produce clear dispositions, repair plans, and inspection reports. Comfortable engaging directly with suppliers and customers.
- an analytical and accurate way of working with experience in troubleshooting
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to supplier shops and job sites (domestic/international).
Preferred Qualifications
- ASNT Level II (VT/PT/MT/UT) or equivalent experience interpreting NDE.
- Experience with ZeCor®/high silicon alloys, duplex/super duplex, and nickel alloys, and FRP components.
- ISO 3834/Welding Quality Management exposure; NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 familiarity.
- Prior work with sulfuric acid plant equipment, wet gas scrubbing, or hydroprocessing equipment.
- Basic PLC/HMI and instrumentation literacy for FAT interfaces.
Authority & Interfaces
- Stop work authority at suppliers and sites for safety and quality.
- Approver for WPS/PQR and ITP hold points within defined criticality thresholds.
- Delegation of Authority (DOA) is the same as Project Manager; reports to Fabrication Quality Manager; dotted-line to Regional PM Manager.
