This position will work with Dr. Roderick Lammers and Dr. Amanda Suchy to coordinate field and lab research and data analysis with the aim of quantifying ecosystem services on state-managed wetlands. Duties include conducting independent research, field and laboratory data collection, and preparing research materials for presentation and publication.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
2 years of job and/or coursework experience in data analysis, statistics, research methods, and/or field data collection.
Communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.
Ability to organize and manage a team.
Valid driver’s license and must submit a driving record check to be approved to drive CMU vehicles.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s of Science in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field, or completion of graduate level course work in these areas.
Experience in data analysis software including Microsoft ® Excel and R.
Experience with the Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands Consortium approved protocols (
http://www.glc.org/wetlands/), especially related to waterfowl and plant identification.
Experience conducting independent research.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conducts independent research, including performing literature reviews, conducting data analysis, and preparing material for publication.
Samples wetland water quality, soils, greenhouse gas emissions, vegetation, and birds. Extensive field work in wetlands involving pre-sampling preparation (e.g., scheduling, reservations, field safety forms, labeling sample containers), travel (including occasional overnight trips), data collection, species identification, and using and maintaining sampling equipment.
Supervises and trains student workers both in the lab and during field data collection.
Data management and analysis, including analyzing results and reporting to project PIs.
Coordinates field work (including pre-sampling preparation) and lab analysis to ensure efficient and accurate data collection.
Preps laboratory work and soil analyses.
Works in water-inundated areas, including muddy substrates and high-water levels, where conditions may preclude ideal footing.
Other duties as assigned.
