Title: Whole Child Specialist

Summary: The Whole Child Specialist is a mental health professional who will provide direct and indirect services to K-12 students experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems. The primary assignment will include Crawford AuSable Schools. The Specialist works with local school districts, families, various human service agencies, law enforcement agencies, and appropriate court personnel to help ensure school success for the students by addressing social/emotional needs. You may be working in any one of the local districts depending on local district needs. This position is covered under the C.O.O.R. Educational Association bargaining agreement with contracted days to total a 190-day working calendar.

Reports To: Behavioral Health Coordinator and/or Director of Instructional Services at the C.O.O.R. Intermediate School District

Qualifications:

Must possess a degree that allows the candidate to serve as one of the following. Bachelor's level may be considered in any of these areas:

licensed master’s level psychologist

limited licensed master’s level psychologist, under the supervision of a licensed master’s level psychologist

MDE credentialed master’s level school psychologist

licensed master’s level marriage and family therapist

licensed master’s level professional counselor

licensed master’s level social worker

licensed master’s level school social worker

limited licensed master’s level social worker, under the supervision of a licensed master’s level school social worker

Ability to work with a variety of people and agencies to ensure student success.

Knowledge of the roles of the various human services agencies and courts to access and coordinate those services to meet the needs of the students.

Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License.

Must have the ability to communicate effectively.

Must have own transportation to and from assignments.

Ability to pass a criminal history check.

Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

The Whole Child Specialist shall have duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to the following.

• Administer behavioral/risk assessments as appropriate to determine individual student needs.
• Serve as leader in the implementation and/or sustainment of Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), a trauma-informed, attachment-based intervention designed to help children who have experienced adversity, early harm, toxic stress, and/or trauma.
• Develop a treatment plan of service with input from the student and relevant team members to improve social, emotional, and/or behavioral related issues.
• Provide behavioral support and counseling services of a non-academic nature.
• Carry a caseload to provide services to students but will also serve as a referral agent for those students not eligible for mental health services.
• Crisis intervention and psycho-educational services to assist the student to improve their academic, personal, and social functioning necessary to succeed in school.
• Provide educational services to caregivers in understanding/supporting students to improve attendance and mental health.
• Stay abreast of changing legislative and/or policy developments, trends, instructional, educational, and/or mental health technologies.
• Completion of all necessary documentation and Medicaid billing.
• Participate as a contributing team member for Whole Child Assessments.
• Participate as a team member when appropriate in the development of FBA/BIPs, Problem Solving Teams, and tiered intervention groups.
• Facilitate the C.O.O.R. ISD collaborative efforts with local schools and community agencies.
• Other duties, as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the Community/School Engagement Specialist must be able to do the following:

• May be required to grasp, push, reach, or stoop/kneel/crouch.
• Acute vision required or correction including close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• May occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds, rarely up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to drive a vehicle to and from local districts.
• Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movements to work on a computer and/or related office.
• Presence on the job is an employee’s fundamental obligation. Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is required.
• Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace through their employment in the district.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: The salary will be commensurate with the education and demonstrated experience of the successful candidate to fulfill the requirements of the position as determined by the administration and in accordance with the C.O.O.R. Educational Association bargaining agreement.
