Job Summary:

The Boiler Technician plays a vital role in maintaining and operating commercial and residential boiler systems across Xanterra facilities in Yellowstone National Park. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable performance of boiler systems through troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and seasonal start-up/shutdown procedures. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and sustainability.

The Details:

Position Type: Seasonal
Season Dates: January 2025 - March 2026
Pay: $20.75/hour - $22.75/hour
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and maintain boiler systems to ensure safe operation and compliance.
  • Establish and maintain proper boiler water chemistry; perform chemical testing as directed.
  • Complete, track, and report corrective and preventive maintenance using Boiler Chemistry Logs and CMMS.
  • Utilize appropriate tools and materials for efficient work order completion.
  • Monitor boiler fuel inventory and report usage.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and cooperative work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision; flexibility to work overtime or nights as needed.
Qualifications:
Boiler Technician II
  • Strong analytical ability and mechanical aptitude for predictive, scheduled, and emergency maintenance.
  • Knowledge of tools and materials for boiler operation and repair.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new procedures.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with CMMS.
  • Understanding of OSHA and NFPA safety regulations.
  • Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and flexible shifts.

Boiler Technician I:
  • Valid boiler operator’s license or equivalent of 3+ years of experience.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude for predictive, scheduled, and emergency maintenance.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, and procedures for boiler operation and repair.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
  • Familiarity with OSHA and NFPA safety regulations; ability to identify and correct unsafe practices.
  • Strong mentoring and training capabilities.
  • Problem-solving skills with patience and persistence.
  • Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and flexible shifts.


Physical Requirements include:
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and comply with respiratory protection regulations.
  • Walk up to 0.5 miles over uneven terrain; climb stairs and ladders; work in varied weather conditions at elevations above 6,000 ft.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Differentiate colors for water testing.
  • Perform heavy labor outdoors.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
