POSITION TITLE:ATTORNEY
JOB LOCATION: Sarasota – Workers’ Compensation Department
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: J.D. from recognized law school accredited by the American Bar Association and a member of the Florida Bar. Must be highly organized, detail oriented and possess exceptional communication, analytical and writing skills.
SCHEDULE: Full-Time.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Workers’ compensation insurance defense. Conduct legal research and analysis of applicable statutes. Develop strategies, evidence, and arguments in preparation for trial. Prepare a variety of legal documents such as discovery requests and responses, pleadings, subpoenas, and medical composites. Use computer programs, document management systems and other technology to enhance job performance. Maintain the firm’s core values of client commitment, honesty, integrity, accountability, teamwork, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to support a positive work environment.
· Manage a caseload of workers’ compensation defense files from inception through resolution. Conduct legal research and case law analysis relevant to each claim.
· Draft responsive pleadings, motions, stipulations, settlement documents, and other legal correspondence.
· Conduct discovery, including: preparing and responding to and requests for production. Taking depositions of claimants, medical experts, and other witnesses.
· Review and summarize medical records; prepare detailed medical composites and chronologies.
· Attend court appearances, including status conferences, mediations, pre-trials, and trials.
· Analyze and evaluate cases for risk exposures and settlement strategy.
· Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates, legal direction, and strategize on case handling.
· Maintain accurate time records in accordance with firm and client billing requirements.
Collaboratively work with partners, fellow associates, and staff on claims for effective resolution.
