Workers Compensation Legal Secretary

LEGAL SECRETARY SUMMARY:

Legal Secretaries provide support to Midwest Disability's Workers Compensation attorneys and staff. They complete our attorneys’ dictation, correspondence, and maintain attorney and hearing calendars. They assist attorneys in preparing client files, court notices, appeal letters, medical record requests, etc. Legal Secretaries frequently communicate with clients. A high level of attention to detail and organization is needed to support our attorney needs.

LEGAL SECRETARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete attorneys’ dictation as submitted. Make sure each file is correctly and accurately dictated and all tasks are completed as necessary per policies and procedures
  • Communicate with clients regarding court notices, deposition notices, and statuses of claims
  • Schedule attorney appointments with clients
  • Oversee medical record requests and follow up of requests
  • Open new client files by requesting insurance files, claim files, medical records, DOLI files, etc.
  • Prepare Motions for Continuance
  • Administratively close files at attorney direction
  • Prepare itemization of costs and social security language for settlement agreements
  • Complete and submit attorney withdrawal letters
  • Send court notices, including but not limited to, depositions and Independent Medical Examinations
  • Pay invoices for medical records, doctor letters, etc.
  • Assist as needed with mailings, clerical support, travel reports, and data entry projects
  • Other duties as Assigned

LEGAL SECRETARY Hours, Pay, and Benefits:

  • Rate of pay $19.00 to $20.00 per hour, depends on experience
  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

LEGAL SECRETARY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED equivalent. Some college preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and high expectations for personal and employee performance.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Exhibits good listening skills.
  • Consistent, reliable attendance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Proficient in QuickBooks
  • Exhibit strong typing skills and the ability to dictate information
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities on a regular basis.
  • Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Displays understanding of how job relates to others.

LEGAL SECRETARY PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasionally required to stand.
  • Occasionally required to walk.

  • Continually required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.
  • Continually required to talk or hear.
  • Continually required to lift/push light weights less than 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus
  • The noise level in the work environment usually is quiet.
