Job Title: Workshop Manager

Position Overview

The Workshop Manager is responsible for the overall management and performance of the workshop, ensuring efficient maintenance, repair, and servicing of fleet vehicles and heavy earthmoving equipment. This role involves leading workshop operations, supervising technical teams, optimizing resources, controlling costs, and ensuring full compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Operations & Leadership

  • Plan, organize, and manage daily workshop activities to ensure timely and efficient maintenance and repair operations.
  • Lead, supervise, and motivate workshop engineers, technicians, and support staff.
  • Allocate manpower, tools, and resources effectively to meet operational targets.
  • Enforce health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and ensure safe working practices at all times.

Technical & Engineering Oversight

  • Provide expert technical guidance and hands-on support for complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
  • Oversee diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy vehicles and earthmoving equipment.
  • Ensure repairs and servicing are carried out in accordance with manufacturer specifications and best practices.

Maintenance Planning & Control

  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all equipment and fleet vehicles.
  • Minimize equipment downtime through proactive maintenance planning and effective scheduling.
  • Review maintenance performance and recommend improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work meets internal quality standards, client requirements, and statutory regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to verify workmanship, safety compliance, and documentation accuracy.
  • Address non-conformities and implement corrective actions where required.

Inventory & Cost Management

  • Manage spare parts inventory, tools, and consumables to ensure availability while controlling costs.
  • Coordinate with procurement and suppliers to source parts efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Monitor workshop expenses, reduce wastage, and contribute to budget planning and cost control initiatives.

Training & Team Development

  • Coach, mentor, and train technicians to enhance technical skills and productivity.
  • Identify training needs and support continuous professional development within the workshop team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and equipment history.
  • Prepare technical reports, performance metrics, and management summaries as required.
  • Utilize maintenance management systems and software for tracking and reporting purposes.

Process Improvement

  • Analyze workshop workflows and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Introduce best practices and new technologies to improve operational performance.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in managing workshops involved in heavy vehicles and earthmoving equipment maintenance.
  • Technical Skills: Strong expertise in engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and electrical systems of heavy equipment.
  • Software Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with maintenance management systems, CAD, or diagnostic software is an advantage.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, supervise, and motivate technical teams in a workshop environment.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with a hands-on approach.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Regional Experience: Prior experience in the UAE or Gulf region is preferred.
