Work in the Writing Studio to help MCLA writers at any stage of the writing process: from understanding assignments and brainstorming ideas to planning, revising and polishing final drafts! Both work study and non-work study students are invited to apply.

To prepare for this position, Writing Associates (WAs) are required to take ENGL 308, a Spring semester course focused on best practices in the tutoring of writing. In addition, WAs are also required to participate in an opening Fall training meeting and subsequent (paid) monthly training meetings throughout the school year. To promote the Writing Studio, Writing Associates may also be asked to advertise our services through class visits and other events, to conduct writing workshops, and to advertise via social media. In addition, WAs will be trained to use WCOnline to keep track of appointments, obtain intake information and write up client report forms for each consultation.

Job Requirements:
Completion of ENGL 308
Qualifying GPA of 3.2
Two faculty references.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Empathy and the ability to listen.
Respect for diverse literacy practices.
An understanding of commonly assigned genres and a rhetorical, rather than prescriptive orientation towards grammar and usage.
Teaching Assistant/tutoring experience a plus.

Additional Information:
This position is open only to students currently enrolled at MCLA.
