POSITION: WRITING TEACHER
Hartford Youth Scholars is seeking a Writing Teacher for
The Collegiate Academy
(TCA) for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. All TCA classes and programming will be held in-person; both the fall and spring term classes are held in the Trinity College Innovation Center in Downtown Hartford, CT. Fall and Spring Academy are held on Saturdays from 9:00AM to 3:00PM for our 7th and 8th grade Scholars. In addition to Writing, our Scholars will also take Literature, Mathematics, and Science.
Under the supervision and with the support of the Academy Dean, the Writing Teacher for TCA will be responsible for developing lesson plans and teaching. We are looking for a teacher who is familiar with Writing standards and written communication skills critical to academic development at the middle school level, including grammar and mechanics, writing composition styles, self- and peer-editing, etc. Familiarity with grade-level Writing curricula is a preference but not required. Prior experience teaching at the middle school or high school level is also preferred but not required.

Fall: Each Saturday beginning mid-September through mid-December from 9:00AM to 3:00PM

The Collegiate Academy
is Hartford Youth Scholars' 26-month academic enrichment program, serving middle school students from Hartford. The Collegiate Academy (TCA) is a community of motivated, compassionate, responsible, and hard-working Scholars from Hartford who are committed to becoming competitive applicants for admission into, and success at, some of the area’s top high schools, including private, public, magnet, and charter schools. HYS recruits highly motivated 6th graders from Hartford schools. Scholars are selected based on a variety of personal and academic qualities. Our goal is to reinforce, enrich, and expand our Scholars’ education. Scholars are provided the meaningful opportunities, comprehensive resources, and accountability that teaches and encourages them to become mature and industrious adolescents.

HYS works with motivated students from Hartford - beginning when they are in middle school - for 10+ years, until they have successfully earned an undergraduate degree. At HYS we know that gaining admission to college is only the first step. We work with each Scholar, as well as their families, striving to help them face and overcome obstacles they may encounter along their path to college graduation.
