Job Summary:

The X-Ray Welder and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) Technician is responsible for performing high-quality welding on chilled water piping systems and conducting radiographic (RT) and ultrasonic (UT) inspections to ensure the integrity and compliance of welded joints with applicable codes and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Welding Duties:

  • Perform GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Stick) welding on carbon steel and stainless-steel chilled water pipes.
  • Prepare, fit, and weld piping joints according to ASME, AWS, or BS standards.
  • Interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and welding procedures (WPS).
  • Maintain proper welding parameters and ensure joint alignment and penetration quality.
  • Conduct root pass, fill, and cap welding with precision to meet inspection criteria.
  • Follow strict safety protocols related to welding, confined spaces, and hot work.

Radiography & Ultrasonic Testing Duties:

  • Set up and operate industrial radiography (X-ray/Gamma ray) and ultrasonic testing equipment to examine welded joints for internal defects.
  • Interpret radiographic films and UT results to identify cracks, porosity, inclusions, and other discontinuities.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain traceable records of all testing results.
  • Ensure NDT activities comply with ASNT SNT-TC-1A, ISO 9712, or equivalent certification standards.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC teams, project engineers, and third-party inspectors for weld acceptance.
  • Calibrate and maintain NDT equipment in good working condition.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Diploma or Technical Certificate in Mechanical, Welding, or NDT discipline.
  • Certifications:
  • Certified Welder (ASME Section IX / AWS D1.1 or equivalent)
  • NDT Level II or III in Radiography (RT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) per ASNT or ISO 9712
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in chilled water piping, HVAC, or industrial piping systems.
  • Familiarity with materials such as CS, SS, CuNi, and HDPE (fusion joints) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC documentation, weld maps, and inspection test plans.

Skills:

  • Excellent technical and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in interpreting welding symbols and inspection codes.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Work Conditions:

  • Work may involve confined spaces, heights, and outdoor environments.
  • Must comply with site HSE regulations and permit-to-work systems.
  • Shift or weekend work may be required depending on project schedules.
