Job Summary:

The Yard & Mill Helper / Delivery Assistant plays a key role in supporting daily operations across multiple areas of the business. This position assists with the organization and handling of building materials in the yard, helps in the mill with material preparation and production, supports in-store operations as needed, and goes out on deliveries as a helper with the driver.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling & Yard Support:

• Load and unload lumber, building materials, and supplies for customers and delivery trucks.
• Assist customers in locating and safely loading purchased materials.
• Organize and restock materials in designated areas for easy access and inventory accuracy.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized yard areas at all times.

Mill & Production Assistance:

• Assist with cutting, assembling, or preparing materials in the mill as directed.
• Operate basic tools and equipment safely and efficiently (training provided).
• Support mill staff with staging, labeling, and preparing orders for delivery or pickup.

Delivery Support:

• Ride along with delivery drivers to assist with loading, unloading, and verifying materials at job sites.
• Ensure materials are delivered safely and accurately while representing the company in a courteous, professional manner.
• Follow all safety and vehicle procedures while on deliveries.

Store Support:

• Step in to assist with in-store tasks or customer service as needed.
• Collaborate with team members across departments to ensure a seamless customer experience.

General Responsibilities:

• Follow all company safety policies, including proper lifting techniques and PPE use.
• Report damaged materials, safety concerns, or equipment issues to a supervisor promptly.
• Contribute to a positive team environment by being dependable, flexible, and respectful.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Previous experience in a yard, construction, warehouse, or delivery setting preferred but not required.
• Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work outdoors in various weather conditions.

  • Basic math and measurement skills helpful.
  • Forklift experience or certification a plus (training provided).

Work Environment:

• Outdoor and indoor work in yard, mill, and store environments.
• Requires standing, walking, lifting, and physical activity for extended periods.
• May involve occasional Saturday shifts or overtime based on business needs.
