Youth Community Engagement Librarian (Part-Time, 25 hours per week)

The Glenview Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Youth Services Community Engagement Librarian to join our team. In this role, you will help connect Glenview’s youngest residents and their families with valuable resources, enriching programs, and welcoming library experiences that support learning and growth.

This is a part-time, 25 hours per week position. The schedule for this position is:

Monday 9:00am – 2:00pm

Tuesday 9:00am – 5:00pm

Wednesday 9:00am – 2:00pm

Friday 9:00am – 2:00pm

On the 5th Friday, the hours will be 4:00pm – 9:00pm. And there will be a required weekend rotation every 4th week. When scheduled to work the weekend, the hours will be Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm and Sunday 1:00pm – 5:00pm.

The pay range for this position is $28.13 per hour.

In addition to providing core reference and readers advisory services, you will:

• Plan and lead engaging programs for babies, toddlers, and caregivers, including weekly story times and interactive early literacy activities.
• Collaborate in planning and implementing quarterly themes for the children’s play space that promote exploration, creativity, and early learning.
• Create and maintain early literacy resources and learning materials for parents and caregivers.
• Support outreach and partnership efforts with community organizations, schools, and early childhood providers to strengthen Early Childhood initiatives.

Education/Experience/Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• A Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program is preferred; candidates with substantial progress toward the MLIS (with graduation anticipated within one year) will be considered.
• A master's degree in Education, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field may be considered in lieu of the MLIS when accompanied by relevant professional library experience.
• Candidates without a master’s degree must also possess a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible library experience working with youth or in a comparable role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative, courteous working relationships with a multicultural/multigenerational staff and patron population.
• Knowledge of products, services, and current trends and issues in library practices for youth.
• Knowledge of and interest in media, fiction, and nonfiction materials foryouth.
• Successfully handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Can listen, analyze, solve problems, and exercise good judgment when handling both routine and non-routine issues.
• Works independently and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines.
• Adaptable to changes in existing practices, library routines, and workflows.
• Can operate a personal computer; has knowledge of ILS software, email, and Microsoft Windows 365.
• Ability to learn, instruct others, and perform basic troubleshooting on a variety of library technologies.
• Ability to adjust work schedule to support programming and outreach needs.
• Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Ability to travel to off-site events, including securing reliable transportation; if driving, must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and maintain proof of current automobile insurance.
