Youth Outreach Coordinator

Port Arthur, United States

If the idea of hitting the road, connecting with people, and championing young people energizes you, we’d love to meet you. As an Outreach Coordinator at Sojourners, every day is different—you might be tabling at a community event, presenting at a school, checking in with partners across our seven-county region, or sitting down with a young person experiencing homelessness to make sure they know where to turn for support. We’re seeking someone with high energy, a natural love of people, and a strong belief in the potential of youth.

Note: The office for this position can be located in Athens, Gallia, Ross, or Vinton county. As noted in qualifications, a RELIABLE car is required with the Coordinator being in a different county each day. Mileage reimbursement is provided.

As an Outreach Coordinator, you will:

· Conduct an active outreach campaign across the seven-county region (Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Ross and Vinton counties), distributing educational and promotional materials, representing Sojourners at meetings and events, and making presentations to community groups.

· Lead street outreach efforts to locate and engage youth under age 24 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, runaway behaviors, or trafficking.

· Establish, promote, and maintain a regular schedule and consistent meeting places in each county so youth in need of support know when and where they can connect with you.

· Coordinate with Sojourners staff across programs to ensure the organization is visible and represented in community meetings and special events.

· Partner with community agencies to strengthen referral networks and identify youth who may benefit from Sojourners’ services.

· Provide back-up support to the Intake and Diversion Coordinator by helping young people and families navigate referrals and intake processes, and providing transportation to shelters when needed.

· Perform timely, accurate data recording and entry to document program activities and successes for funders and other key stakeholders.

· Answer phone calls on a rotating schedule with other Outreach team members.

· Ensure young people are treated in an ethical, non-judgmental manner, adhering to the highest possible level of confidentiality.

· Comply with Ohio’s mandated reporter laws and procedures.

Qualifications:
To be a successful Outreach Coordinator, you should have:

· An outgoing personality—one that thrives on meeting and interacting with a diverse range of people in a variety of settings: at meetings or school presentations, one-on-one on the street, on the phone, and at community events.

· A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for the past 4 years and reliable transportation (required). This position requires daily travel around the seven-county region of Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Meigs, Ross, and Vinton counties.

· High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience required; college degree preferred.

· A minimum of one year of experience working with youth in a social service setting (preferred).

· Knowledge of the issues and needs of young people in the region, including the unique challenges faced by youth experiencing homelessness, and familiarity with local social service systems.

· Lived experience with homelessness (preferred but not required).

· The ability to work flexible hours, occasionally including evenings and weekends.

· The ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
