Job Summary
The Zoo Analyst is a vital member of our conservation and research team, responsible for conducting scientific studies and monitoring animal health and behavior within the zoo environment. This role involves applying expertise in animal physiology, taxonomy, microbiology, and veterinary practices to support the well-being of diverse species. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in scientific research, laboratory experience, and animal handling, contributing to ongoing projects aimed at enhancing animal care and conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed assessments of animal physiology, anatomy, and behavior to inform health and enrichment strategies.
  • Perform routine animal handling and restraint procedures ensuring safety for both animals and staff.
  • Assist with medication administration and veterinary procedures as needed.
  • Collect and analyze biological samples in laboratory settings, including microbiology testing.
  • Utilize GIS tools such as ArcGIS for habitat mapping, environmental analysis, and research documentation.
  • Support environmental law compliance related to wildlife conservation and habitat management.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, research data, and environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with veterinary staff, zoologists, and conservation specialists on research projects.
  • Contribute to public education initiatives by providing insights into animal biology and conservation efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Animal Science, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field; advanced degrees preferred.
  • Proven experience in scientific research related to animals or wildlife conservation.
  • Laboratory experience including microbiology techniques is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of veterinary practices such as medication administration and animal restraint techniques.
  • Familiarity with GIS software like ArcGIS or similar mapping tools (e.g., Pet Care applications).
  • Strong understanding of animal physiology, anatomy, taxonomy, and microbiology.
  • Experience with animal handling, zoo keeper duties, or pet care is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of environmental law pertaining to wildlife protection and habitat preservation.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic environment. This position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to wildlife conservation while developing expertise across multiple scientific disciplines within a professional zoological setting.

Pay: $26.00 - $31.31 per hour
