1. Job SummaryThe Urologist is responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases related to the urinary tract and male reproductive system. The role includes OPD consultations, inpatient management, performing urological procedures, and participating in hospital academic activities. The Urologist is expected to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care with a focus on patient safety and clinical excellence.2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Clinical Responsibilities<ul><li>Provide OPD consultations, evaluate patient conditions, interpret diagnostic results, and plan treatment.</li><li>Manage inpatient admissions, progress monitoring, and discharge planning.</li><li>Perform urological procedures including cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, TURP, TURBT, PCNL, URSL, stone management, and other endourological surgeries as applicable.</li><li>Assist in robotic surgeries / laparoscopic urology procedures (if trained).</li><li>Handle urological emergencies like renal colic, urinary retention, hematuria, trauma, and obstructive uropathy.</li><li>Discuss treatment plans, risks, and benefits with patients and obtain informed consent.</li></ul>B. Diagnostic &amp; Therapeutic Duties<ul><li>Interpret imaging studies such as ultrasound, CT, MRI, and uroflowmetry.</li><li>Manage urological cancers, male infertility cases, prostate disorders, urinary tract infections, and incontinence.</li><li>Guide and prescribe laboratory tests, radiological investigations, and interventions.</li></ul>C. Patient Safety &amp; Quality Compliance<ul><li>Ensure adherence to NABH protocols, infection control guidelines, and hospital policies.</li><li>Document clinical notes, treatment plans, surgical details, and follow-up advice accurately in HIS.</li><li>Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement programs.</li><li>Maintain complete medical records and comply with medico-legal requirements.</li></ul>D. Team Collaboration<ul><li>Work collaboratively with anesthesiologists, nephrologists, radiologists, and nursing teams.</li><li>Provide guidance to junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.</li><li>Participate in departmental meetings, CMEs, and academic activities.</li></ul>E. Patient Education &amp; Counseling<ul><li>Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment options, preventive care, and postoperative instructions.</li><li>Provide lifestyle modification advice and long-term management plans for chronic urological conditions.</li></ul>3. Qualifications &amp; Experience<ul><li>M.Ch. Urology / DNB Urology from a recognized and accredited institution.</li><li>Minimum 2 years of post-qualification experience in clinical and surgical urology.</li><li>Valid Medical Council Registration (Mandatory).</li><li>Experience in endourology, laparoscopy, and robotic surgery preferred (training can be provided if needed).</li></ul>4. Key Responsibilities A. Clinical &amp; Surgical Responsibilities<ul><li>Conduct OPD consultations, evaluate new and follow-up cancer patients, and plan treatment.</li><li>Diagnose, stage, and treat a wide range of solid tumors using approved surgical oncology protocols.</li><li>Perform surgeries such as:</li><li>Breast cancer surgeries (lumpectomy, mastectomy, SLNB).</li><li>GI oncology surgeries (colon, stomach, pancreas as applicable).</li><li>Head &amp; neck tumor surgeries.</li><li>Soft tissue and skin tumor excisions.</li><li>Urologic oncology procedures (if trained).</li><li>Manage perioperative care, ensuring safe preoperative preparation and postoperative follow-up.</li><li>Handle oncology-related emergencies such as tumor bleeding, obstruction, or perforation.</li></ul>B. Multidisciplinary Coordination<ul><li>Participate actively in Tumor Boards and coordinate joint treatment plans with medical and radiation oncologists.</li><li>Collaborate closely with pathology, radiology, critical care, and palliative care teams.</li><li>Provide clear counseling to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, risks, recovery, and prognosis.</li></ul>C. Diagnostic &amp; Procedural Duties<ul><li>Request and interpret imaging studies (CT, MRI, PET-CT, USG) and biopsy results.</li><li>Perform biopsies, FNAC, port insertions, and minor oncological procedures.</li><li>Ensure proper TNM staging and documentation based on NCCN/ESMO guidelines.</li></ul>D. Patient Safety &amp; Compliance<ul><li>Ensure adherence to NABH, infection control, OT safety protocols, and hospital policies.</li><li>Maintain complete and accurate medical records in the HIS.</li><li>Obtain informed consent and follow medico-legal requirements meticulously.</li><li>Participate in morbidity &amp; mortality meetings, internal audits, and quality improvement projects.</li></ul>E. Academic &amp; Team Responsibilities<ul><li>Support training and guidance of junior doctors, fellows, and nursing teams.</li><li>Participate in CMEs, tumor registry updates, awareness camps, and oncology-related educational activities.</li><li>Contribute to clinical research and promote evidence-based practice whenever feasible.</li></ul>3. Qualifications &amp; Requirements<ul><li>M.Ch. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES1. Shall report to the Nursing Superintendent directly and on issues of administration shall report to Director through the Nursing Superintendent.2. Collaboration &amp; Communication<ul><li>Work closely with surgeons, physicians, emergency teams, and other departments to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.</li><li>Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, tumor boards, and clinical discussions.</li><li>Provide guidance to technicians, junior staff, and nurses regarding imaging protocols.</li></ul>F.
