911 Telecommunicator / Dispatcher

Job Summary
Join our dedicated emergency response team as a 911 Telecommunicator / Dispatcher, where your quick thinking and exceptional communication skills will be the backbone of community safety. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for emergency calls, providing critical assistance by accurately assessing situations, dispatching appropriate responders, and offering reassurance to distressed callers. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will ensure rapid response times and effective coordination with law enforcement, fire services, medical teams, and other emergency personnel. Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming multi-line phone calls with professionalism, courtesy, and clear communication, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette.
  • Conduct thorough phone triage to determine the nature and severity of emergencies, utilizing medical terminology and first aid knowledge when necessary.
  • Gather essential information from callers through active listening and analysis skills to accurately assess situations and prioritize responses.
  • Dispatch law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), fire personnel, or other responders promptly using GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) tools for precise location tracking.
  • Maintain detailed records of all calls, dispatches, and incident reports through accurate data entry and transcription.
  • Utilize GPS technology and GIS mapping to coordinate responder locations efficiently during emergencies.
  • Manage complex multi-line phone systems while maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Provide critical guidance on medical procedures or first aid until responders arrive, including basic life support instructions when appropriate.
  • Engage in conflict management and negotiation techniques to calm distressed callers or manage difficult interactions professionally.
  • Collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies, medical personnel, and fire services to ensure seamless communication flow during emergencies.
  • Monitor security systems and conduct routine checks on radio channels or communication equipment to ensure operational readiness.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate must be primarily an excellent communicator, especially in emergency situations.

You must be able to multi-task as well as be able to take appropriate action with little supervision.

Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Receive emergency and non emergency calls, and dispatch to the appropriate agencies
  • Address problems and requests
  • Use radio, multi lined phone system, and computer skills to take calls, log information, and direct first responders
  • Must be dependable and on time
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check along with a suitability test, and polygraph.
  • Full Time must complete a 4-week Academy in Richmond Ky at DOCJT. Must be able to stay there for four weeks and only come home on weekends.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Fast and accurate typing with experience in data entry. (At least 36 WPM)
  • Proficient in English (oral and written)
