Accountant (Construction Industry Experience)

Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant with a strong background in the construction industry to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing construction-related finances, cost tracking, project budgeting, and working closely with project managers and field teams. This role is critical in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and profitability across all construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting tasks including AP/AR, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
• Oversee job costing, project budgeting, and variance analysis for ongoing construction projects.
• Collaborate with project managers to track budgets, forecasts, and financial progress.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in accordance with company and industry standards.
• Reconcile bank accounts, vendor statements, and subcontractor payments.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations, labor laws, and construction contract requirements.
• Maintain accurate records for audits, lien releases, and insurance certificates.
• Manage payroll processing specific to prevailing wage and union requirements (if applicable).
• Support year-end closing and assist with external audits.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 4–5 years in the construction industry.
• Proficient in construction accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or similar).
• Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reports, AIA billing, and retention tracking.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
