DESCRIPTION

The Accountant – GST Compliance is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely GST filings, maintaining compliance with Indian tax regulations, and supporting internal and external audits. This role involves financial analysis, reconciliation, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to uphold Cummins’ financial integrity and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities GST Compliance & Filing

  • Prepare and file GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9) within statutory deadlines.
  • Reconcile GSTR-2B with books and ensure accuracy in Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims.
  • Handle Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) calculations and entries.

GST Audits & Reconciliations

  • Conduct monthly and annual GST reconciliations.
  • Support internal and external audits related to GST.
  • Maintain proper documentation for audit trails.

Vendor & Export Compliance

  • Verify vendor GST registrations and invoice accuracy.
  • Manage merchant export documentation and compliance.

Internal Coordination

  • Collaborate with procurement, finance, and operations teams for GST-related matters.
  • Ensure timely and accurate GST entries in ERP systems (SAP/Tally/Oracle).

Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Maintain organized records of GST transactions, returns, and invoices.
  • Ensure proper archiving for future reference and audits.

Training & Awareness

  • Conduct internal training sessions on GST updates and compliance best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience in GST compliance and accounting.
  • Strong understanding of GST laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (SAP, Tally, Oracle).
  • Experience in financial analysis, reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Technical Competencies

  • Tax Calculation & ITC Management – Accurate computation of GST liabilities and ITC claims.
  • Invoice Verification – Ensuring supplier invoices meet GST compliance standards.
  • GST Filing & Documentation – Timely filing of returns and maintaining audit-ready records.
  • Liaison with Authorities – Coordinating with GST authorities for notices and queries.
  • Financial Analysis – Interpreting financial data to identify trends and variances.
  • Internal Controls – Assessing and improving financial reporting controls.
  • Regulatory Acumen – Understanding and applying financial regulations and standards.
  • US GAAP Knowledge – Evaluating and applying US accounting standards where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
  • Professional certifications in taxation or finance are a plus.
