Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, a solid understanding of GAAP, and experience with various accounting software. This role involves managing financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting financial analysis to aid strategic decision-making. The Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial data and supporting the organization’s financial health across both nonprofit and corporate sectors.
Duties
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and accuracy.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and cash flow analysis to monitor liquidity positions.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements and ensure compliance with relevant laws such as securities law and Wills, trusts & estate law when applicable.
- Perform internal audits and assist external auditors during auditing processes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of financial transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms.
- Support tax preparation activities by managing tax-related entries and documentation.
- Mentor junior staff or interns in accounting procedures and best practices.
- Contribute to process improvements within the finance department to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting standards.
- Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or equivalent systems.
- Experience with corporate accounting, nonprofit accounting, governmental accounting, and public accounting environments.
- Familiarity with technical accounting concepts such as accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and journal entries.
- Ability to interpret financial reports and perform financial analysis including cash flow analysis and budgeting.
- Knowledge of securities law, Wills & estate law is a plus for specialized roles.
- Excellent skills in financial report writing and interpretation for management review.
- Strong analytical skills combined with financial acumen for effective decision support.
- Experience in payroll processing is desirable but not mandatory.
- Effective mentoring abilities to guide team members or interns in complex accounting procedures. Pay: $61,502.32 - $74,067.31 per year
