Accountant Required

Job Summary

The Academy Accountant is responsible for the complete, accurate, and timely financial management of the Academy. This role ensures robust fiscal control, manages student revenue cycles, administers payroll, and guarantees full compliance with local regulations, including the Bahrain Ministry of Education (MOE) financial requirements and VAT laws.

Core Responsibilities

1. Revenue & Accounts Receivable Management

  • Student Fee Cycle: Oversee the entire student fee process, including timely billing, recording of receipts, issuance of official invoices, and management of any discounts or installment plans.
  • Collections & Follow-up: Proactively monitor the Accounts Receivable (AR) ledger, manage communication with parents regarding outstanding fees, and report on debtors to the Principal/Director.
  • Cash Management: Handle daily bank reconciliation, monitor cash flow, and manage the petty cash fund according to established policy.

2. General Ledger & Financial Reporting

  • Bookkeeping: Maintain all financial records, including the General Ledger (GL), ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded in compliance with IFRS/GAAP standards.
  • Month-End Close: Execute all necessary monthly and yearly closing procedures, including posting journal entries (JVs), managing accruals and prepayments, and calculating depreciation.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present detailed monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and accompanying financial analysis to the senior management team.

3. Payroll & Expenditure Control

  • Payroll Administration: Administer the monthly payroll for all academic and administrative staff in full compliance with Bahrain Labour Law, ensuring accurate deductions and timely disbursals.
  • Accounts Payable (AP): Process vendor invoices and staff expense reports, ensuring proper documentation, authorization, and timely payment.
  • Fixed Assets: Maintain a detailed Fixed Asset Register and ensure physical assets are tracked and accounted for.

4. Compliance & Audit

  • Local Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to financial regulations and reporting requirements issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Finance.
  • VAT: Manage the process for Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance, including correct calculation, record-keeping, and preparation for timely filing with the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR).
  • Audit Liaison: Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external auditors, providing all necessary financial schedules, documentation, and explanations.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting, with specific experience in the education sector or a similar service-based industry preferred.
  • A professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CMA) is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Expert proficiency in MS Excel for analysis and reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP system or professional accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
  • Strong understanding of Bahraini VAT regulations and local labour laws related to payroll.

Competencies & Attributes

  • Integrity: Absolute discretion and trustworthiness in handling confidential financial and payroll information.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous and highly accurate approach to financial record-keeping.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Arabic is a significant advantage) to interact effectively with parents, staff, and external authorities.
  • Organizational Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines (e.g., month-end, payroll, VAT filing) under pressure.
