An Accounting Manager oversees daily financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly/year-end closing. They ensure GAAP compliance, prepare financial statements, manage tax filings, and mentor accounting staff. They often hold a Bachelor's in Accounting and 5–7 years of experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Operations: Manage day-to-day accounting functions (AP, AR, payroll, bank reconciliations).
- Financial Reporting: Prepare, analyze, and report accurate monthly financial statements (balance sheets, income statements).
- Month-End Close: Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff members.
- Tax & Budgeting: Prepare and file tax returns (sales, use, occupancy) and assist in developing annual budgets.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is often preferred.
- Experience: 5–7 years of proven accounting experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities to interpret financial data and improve processes.
