Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of BUHLMANN USA’s financial records and reporting. This position manages the month-end close, oversees daily accounting operations, leads a team of two staff accountants, and serves as a key partner to the BUHLMANN Group’s global Reporting and Controlling teams. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, systems-minded professional with strong leadership and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the month-end closing process and prepare monthly financial reporting in accordance with accrual-based accounting principles
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of two staff accountants, ensuring high standards of accuracy, productivity, and collaboration
- Oversee bank account reconciliations, employee expense report processing, and credit card statement review and posting
- Manage accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R), ensuring timely processing of vendor invoices and customer payments
- Administer credit insurance and actively support payment collection efforts
- Create, implement, and maintain checklists, process documentation, and instructions for recurring tasks to ensure consistency and efficiency
- Support the year-end financial audit process, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and responses to auditor inquiries
- Prepare and submit required tax filings, including income, sales, property, and franchise taxes, in collaboration with tax advisors where applicable
- Ensure proper certification, registration, and compliance with local, state, and federal authorities
- Coordinate and communicate with the BUHLMANN Group’s global Reporting and Controlling teams, ensuring alignment with group policies and deadlines
- Monitor and adhere to agreed reporting deadlines, statutory due dates, and internal timelines
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, internal controls, and use of systems
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience with a proven track record of responsibility and achievement
- Intimate knowledge of accrual-based accounting principles (US GAAP experience preferred)
- Demonstrated experience managing or supervising accounting staff
- Strong understanding of month-end close, financial reporting, A/P, A/R, bank reconciliations, and tax-related processes
- Excellent leadership skills and a genuine interest in training, coaching, and developing team members
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and a systematic approach to problem solving
- Proven ability to work under time pressure and consistently meet deadlines
Preferred:
- Experience working for foreign-owned companies and collaborating across different time zones and cultures
- Experience with AS/400 (IBM i) systems – highly valued but not required
