Job Title: Accounting Specialist
Full Time position - 40 hours per week
Starting Pay Rate: $51,750 - $57,000 a year.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
JOB PURPOSE
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing accounting support to accountants and accounting supervisory staff within the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & BASIC DUTIES

Key in resales of unit ownership into
- Key in Mutual receipts

Key in Trust receipts
-
Prepare and process owner refunds
-
Reapply payments as necessary
-
Complete monthly delinquency process
-
Perform AP and AR duties as necessary
-
Serve as the Accounts Receivable backup
-
Assist with other duties in the department
-
Filing
-
Prepare and maintain accounting documents and records, and researching discrepancies

Prepare bank deposits, general ledger postings and statements, including remote deposit, which involves sorting out mail, matching coupons and making a batch for deposit

Reconcile accounts
-
Enter key data of financial transactions in data base daily

Compile and sort invoices and checks, processes invoices for payment and checks for deposit

Issue checks for accounts payable and mails them out
- Record business transactions and keys daily worksheets to general ledger system

Input type vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records

Match invoices to checks for signature
-
Utilize computer systems to run databases, pay bills and order supplies

Coordinate customer acceptance of payment

Assist Accountants with resident communications, including payment coupons and mailings

Distribute association financials and delinquency reports

Monthly shredding of confidential documents and checks

Customer service including assisting residents and Accountants

Performs other accounting and clerical functions to support department as required

All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) - Required

Associates Degree (two years of college or technical school) in accounting, finance, business administration or related field with 2-4 years of experience

Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field, with 0-2 years of experience.
YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree with 0-2 years of experience or Associates Degree with 2-4 years of experience.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as spreadsheets, balance sheets, invoices, and correspondence. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

Ability to make and verify computations with accuracy, to compile statistical data and prepare routine reports and to work under time constraints
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages

Ability to interact and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with community residents and outside organizations and agencies at various levels

Ability to resolve problems in a courteous and professional manner

Ability to take care of customers' needs while following company procedures

Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted and paying attention to the minute details of a project or task

Ability to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, set up functions, enter data, or process information

High level of accuracy and attention to detail

Knowledge of accounting terms, principles, and processes

Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations

Knowledge and experience with accounting computer applications

Working knowledge of Jenark accounting software - Preferred

Proficient in EXCEL, WORD

Proficient in use of 10 key adding machine.
