Accounting/HR Manager

Accounting/HR Manager – Sylvania Recreation Corporation

Reports To: Executive Director

Status: Full Time / Exempt

Summary:

Sylvania Recreation Corporation (SRC) is a fast-paced nonprofit agency in need of a full-time Accounting/HR Manager.

This position is a key role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This position plays a critical role in budgeting, reporting, and internal controls, grant management, supporting the mission and sustainability of the organization.

Since 1994, SRC has been providing recreation programs, facilities and services to the Sylvania community. Our mission is to provide high quality recreation and leisure facilities, parks, programs and activities to meet the demonstrated needs of all citizens who reside within the district through sound planning, efficient allocation of resources, and effective management.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee, complete and/or provide backup for all accounting functions including general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations and account analysis
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
  • Assist with the annual audit process with external auditors
  • Provide bookkeeping assistance for the Sylvania Area Joint Recreation District (SAJRD)

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and reporting requirements
  • Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of annual 1099, W-2’s and other required filings
  • Work closely with 401K Plan advisors to ensure compliance

Strategic Support

  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making
  • Collaborate with leadership on financial planning, risk management, and sustainability initiatives
  • Support fundraising efforts with financial data and grant reporting

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in the development of the annual organizational budget in collaboration with department heads
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular analysis and financial forecasts

Grant Management

  • Work with Fundraising & Development Manager to track and manage all grant-related financial activity, ensuring compliance with funder requirements and restrictions
  • Maintain accurate records of restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation and reporting in accounting software
  • Assist with financial aspects of grant proposals, renewals and reporting as needed

Team Leadership

  • Supervise Accounting Assistant
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement

Human Resource Responsibilities

  • Process employee and new hire documents
  • Process and submit payroll to payroll administration company
  • Provide an explanation of benefits when applicable for new employees
  • Ensure employee handbook is updated and presented to new hires
  • Document paid time off for FTE’s
  • Workers Compensation reporting and oversight

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (CPA or CPA candidate status is preferred but not required)
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and grant compliance
  • Experience managing federal, state, and private grants
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Business Central, QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with P.O.S. systems (currently Square) reporting
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities in a very dynamic environment

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Starting Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000, based on experience.
