Overview
Neighborhood Loans is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist to join our growing finance team. The ideal candidate is an ethical, hands-on leader with strong accounts payable expertise, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to oversee day-to-day AP operations. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys managing workflows, mentoring team members, ensuring accurate and timely payments, and contributing to the financial integrity of a growing residential mortgage lender with strong career growth potential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee the accounts payable function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments
• Review, code, and approve invoices in accordance with company policies and GAAP
• Manage vendor relationships, resolve discrepancies, and respond to internal and external inquiries
• Reconcile AP subledger to the general ledger and assist with month-end and year-end close activities
• Ensure proper documentation, approvals, and internal controls are maintained across AP processes
• Monitor AP aging, payment terms, and cash disbursements to support effective cash flow management
• Assist with audits, regulatory reporting, and compliance requirements related to accounts payable
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
• Train, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to AP team members

Qualifications:

• 1–3 years of accounts payable experience required (mortgage experience a plus)
• High proficiency with Excel required
• Attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job Type / Location:

• Full-time
• Hybrid Role: 2-3 Days per week in Downers Grove, IL Office

Compensation: Starting at $55,000 - $60,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
