ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING TECHNICIAN

Smith & Loveless is united under one cause: “Protecting Water. Protecting People.” We are seeking an Additive Manufacturing Technician to partner with our experienced Design Engineering teams in this environmentally focused industry.

An Additive Manufacturing Technician at Smith and Loveless is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of 3D printing equipment to ensure seamless operation. Incorporate the components by the 3D printer with other purchased or fabricated components to created models or prototypes to be used by the department or company. Your expertise will help drive efficiency, quality, and innovation in our production processes. We’re looking for a motivated individual who thrives on technical challenges and is eager to contribute to cutting-edge projects. Will work generally as part of team effort under direct supervision by either the Design Engineering Manager or more experienced Design Engineer.

Skills/Requirements

  • Minimum GED or equivalent, preferred AS Degree in Engineering Technology.
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in additive manufacturing (in academic or industrial environment).
  • Preferred experience with making 3D CAD (Inventor) models and AutoCad mechanical drawings.
  • Experience in 3D Printing technology and process development.
  • Strong understanding of 3D Printing technologies, design for manufacturing, ability to assemble components into full models, strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be organized and motivated to meet deadlines, detail oriented, and follow company standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications, Outlook, Excel, Teams, OneNote and Planner.
  • Must be able to read and create engineering drawings, ability to visualize in 3D from 2-dimensional drawings.

Job duties

  • Generate optimized designs, layouts, and build files to produce high-quality parts efficiently and consistently.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of 3D printers to optimize performance and print quality.
  • Troubleshoot software issues related to slicing programs, firmware, and printer interfaces with precision.
  • Be accountable for the delivery of process engineering deliverables and services on time, meeting quality expectations, and in coordination with project plans.
  • Analyze and improve processes for existing and new production methods involving new materials, new 3D printing technology, and new post-processing techniques.
  • Lead, interact, and collaborate with other engineers including materials, software, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
  • Work in a hands-on manner to quickly design and execute tests for assessing feasibility of new concepts and ideas.
  • Work with 3D modeling (Inventor) and print preparation software to design 3D printing experiments and validations.
  • Be able to assemble complete models or prototypes from component parts.
  • Maintain detailed logs of print jobs, service activities, repairs, and equipment status for record-keeping and continuous improvement
  • Ability to take sketches or general directions and understand how to make 3D model and drawings.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Design Engineering Manager
