Administrative Assistant I (Customer Service Representative)
About the Job: The city of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Administrative Assistant I to the Public Works, Transit Services Division. As an Administrative Assistant I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of customer service, clerical, and administrative tasks in support of the Transit Division. This is an in-person position without a remote/telework option. This position will be located at the Transit Division’s Downtown Transit Terminal.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00a to 5:00p


This is a special at-will position funded by a FTA grant received by Transit annually.

As an Administrative Assistant I, you will:
  • Provide general information and assistance to the public regarding transit programs and services (fixed-route bus service, ADA paratransit service, and Metro Rides,) and how to utilize these services
  • Enter pertinent information into a database for complaints, commendations, and inquiries received from various sources
  • Intake, catalogue, and dispose of lost and found items
  • Process, track and report individual and bulk bus pass sales orders with accuracy
  • Report issues to appropriate departments
  • Review, research, and summarize a variety of fiscal, statistical, operational, and other information/data
  • Prepare various reports, memoranda, and correspondence
  • Coordinate with external contractors, such as dispatchers and supervisors, to address operational issues, with supervision
  • Review audiovisual files from incidents to investigate complaints and issues
  • Demonstrate courtesy, professionalism, and promptness in interacting with the public
  • Provide backup support to other transit functions such as the cash room operation

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:

  • Modern office technology
  • Proper English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Cash handling procedures


Ability to:

  • Use effective, clear, concise communication and interpersonal skills to interact with contractors and the public, ensuring clear exchange of information
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, and receive guidance from supervisors on work tasks
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and excellent organizational and customer service skills
  • Demonstrate experience with in-bound call-taking

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
  • One year of full-time, professional clerical, administrative, or customer service experience in a related field
