A Brief Overview
Assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Professional governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Education Qualifications

Must be a graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy.

Licenses and Certifications

Physician Assistant (PA) - KSBHA Required

Additional certification may be required in certain patient care settings or populations. The department director will provide specific information and the time frame in which such certification may be attained at the time of hire/transfer into department.

Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 90 days. RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department.

What you will do
-
Request for service is by consultation and patients will be rounded on in accordance with Medical Staff rules and regulations. Receive consultations as assigned.

Assess normal and abnormal findings from the history, physical examination, laboratory reports and other diagnostic tests.
-
Manage the medical plan of care as related to the consultation, based on protocols adopted jointly by the advanced registered nurse practitioner and the supervising physician(s) and within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act under the direction of the supervising physician(s).

Collaborate with the patient and members of the health care team to provide for ongoing health care and/or referral of the patient.

Prescribe prescription only drugs following written protocol as allowed by Kansas Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with K.A.R.60-11-104a. In no case shall the scope of authority of the advance registered nurse practitioner exceed the prescribing authority of the supervising physician.

Abide by Medical Staff guidelines for patient care, appointment, reappointment, and licensure requirements.

Perform all functions defined by basic nursing practice.

Perform and record history and physical exam as related to the requested consultation.

Order appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures.

Compile and record data, complete progress notes in a timely fashion as required by Medical Staff policy.

Develop individualized teaching plans and determine education deficits.

Provide discharge instructions and referral if necessary upon discharge.
-
Serve as a reference for nursing and medical staff.

Support nursing staff by providing continuing education when possible.

Constantly contribute to a high level of customer satisfaction.
