AK Military Youth Academy (AMYA) Life Skills-RPM Coordinator

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of AK Military Youth Academy (AMYA), is recruiting for a Life Skills Coordinator position with the Recruitment, Placement, and Mentoring (RPM) Section!


This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at a range 16.


This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access, which is required with this position's work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. Also, you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance, and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.

Special Note: In addition, in some cases employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited college;
AND
Possession of a valid Alaska driver's license.

Substitution:
Experience in counseling, interviewing, case management, or work specifically in the behavioral or social services fields may substitute for the required education (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience). This experience includes work such as AMYA Team Leader, Senior Team Leader, or Youth Counselor with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Other Job Specific Requirements:
This position at AMYA requires the ability to work calmly and effectively with distraught, highly emotional at-risk youth in a residential setting, often under high-stress conditions while managing multiple activities. It involves working both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in challenging situations such as de-escalating crises or encountering wildlife on campus. The role is based on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, requiring passing a security check and strict adherence to security protocols. It also involves a non-standard schedule, including evenings, weekends, and on-call rotations, emphasizing the need for flexibility and resilience in a dynamic, secure environment.
