American Job Center Bridges to Careers Program - Parks Laborer

Job Posting Information

Jumpstart Your Career with the Bridges to Careers Program
The American Job Center’s Bridges to Careers Program is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on work experience while receiving support from Career Planners dedicated to helping you grow professionally and build a path to long-term success.

We’re currently seeking motivated individuals to join a 10-week paid program as Temporary Parks Laborers with the City of Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department. Participants will work directly in Lincoln’s beautiful parks while attending weekly one-hour career development workshops at the American Job Center. These sessions are designed to sharpen your workplace skills and set you up for future career growth.

As a Parks Laborer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing Lincoln’s 168 parks, 185.9 miles of trails, public gardens, conservation areas, and more.

And the best part? If it’s a great fit, there may be opportunities to continue working beyond the 10-week program!

A day on the job could entail:

  • Tackling maintenance of park grounds, buildings, sidewalks, trails and landscape materials like a pro, keeping everything in tip-top shape.
  • Sprucing up the place—mowing, trimming, planting, and basically turning our parks into an earthly paradise.
  • Diving into janitorial duties like a superhero to keep everything spic-and-span —trash duty, restroom rescue, playground pickup.

Some knowledge of power and hand tools used in the work.

Ability to perform heavy manual work for extended periods of time in all types of weather.

Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, be physically able to perform manual labor, safely lift 50 pounds without assistance, and safely perform repetitive physical tasks.

Temporary, on call, and seasonal positions with the City are not eligible for benefits.
