Position Summary:

The Community Engagement Associate will provide direct support to the Community Engagement team by attending events in the 7-county metro (with emphasis on the Greater East Side and North Minneapolis) and assisting with client and lead data entry and follow-up. They will work to deliver desired program outcomes and objectives with a focus on providing excellent customer service experience. Members will serve 5, 8-hour days per week (40 hours total), with specific hours varying depending on event needs. Flex time is built into the schedule to accommodate evening and weekend shifts. While the standard schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, occasional Monday shifts may be required. Extended days may occur during special events, with adjusted hours provided within the same week to maintain a 40-hour work schedule.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • (60%) Serve as a tabling employee at community events representing Habitat and sharing homeownership opportunities, ReStore information, and general program information
    • Answer questions and provide program information
    • Provide excellent customer service and program delivery through response to phone calls and emails from prospective clients
  • (30%) As assigned, enter lead data and follow up with leads
    • Salesforce lead entry
    • Send out “starter packs.”
    • Lead follow-up phone calls
  • (10%) Participate in AmeriCorps-related activities as assigned
    • Attend orientation at the beginning of service
    • Participate in scheduled affiliate, program, and statewide AmeriCorps events


Essential qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • A U.S. Citizen or U.S. National or a lawful permanent resident
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Successfully pass background, sex offender and FBI fingerprint checks
  • Must submit contact information for one professional reference
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Stand for most community events (typically 3-6 hours at a time)
  • Lift and carry tabling materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Bend, lift, grasp, reach, push, and pull materials
  • Give and receive detailed information through verbal communication
  • Periodically load and unload a personal vehicle and drive to and from events. Mileage reimbursement for event transportation is provided.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and apply Salesforce and Switchvox (phone service)
  • Effective interpersonal skills and intercultural communication skills working with a variety of people and personalities, including diverse races, cultures, and economic backgrounds
  • Bilingual or fluent in Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Oromo, or other languages (preferred)
  • Ability to learn and share program information
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to make routine decisions and problem-solve
  • Adaptable and flexible regarding varying communication and work styles, assignments, and service hours
  • Ability to serve independently or in a group
  • Experienced or ability to learn basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Independently operate a motor vehicle
  • Prior volunteer experience preferred


Service Environment:

The majority of the service is performed outside at community events. Environments vary (sun exposure, indoor events, etc.). Office environments could include sedentary working conditions and the ability to work from a desk for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry heavy materials.
