Job Description and Duties

The Secretary of State’s Office, Political Reform Division (PRD) is pleased to announce an opportunity for a qualified applicant to fill one permanent, full-time ANALYST I position. A Training and Development (T&D) Assignment will be considered for this recruitment. To be appointed to the classification, the successful T&D candidate must fully meet the minimum qualifications by the end of the T&D assignment. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of professionals who play a critical role in promoting transparency in the campaign finance and lobbying processes!

The PRD has fifty full-time staff, plus student assistants and retired annuitants, all of whom work collaboratively to meet the needs of the campaign and lobbying community. Everyone in the division works hard, and with time, has become proficient in certain areas of the Political Reform Act of 1974 (PRA). We pride ourselves on delivering great customer service! PRD team members are welcoming and are always ready to coach, train, and assist new team members.

This position will challenge you to learn new skills and provide you with the opportunity to apply those new skills appropriately. As you strengthen your analytical ability, you will be relied upon to apply laws, principles, and concepts consistently and fairly.

Under the general direction of a Supervisor I, this position handles a variety of moderately complex analytical tasks for the Secretary of State’s Political Reform Division as outlined by the Political Reform Act. As a key team member in the Public Area Unit, the incumbent provides excellent customer service by phone, email, and in person. Major duties include solving complex filing issues, collecting and analyzing data, creating and presenting analytical reports, redacting sensitive personal information from public filings, maintaining workflow, and training others. This role requires excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to write and edit procedures and manuals. The incumbent will become knowledgeable and proficient in reviewing documents filed with the Political Reform Division and will guide the public on filing and procedures.

  • Ability to properly apply laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to follow intricate and precise program requirements.
  • Technical skills including the use of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and Power BI.
  • Has demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable, ethical and takes pride in a job well done.
  • An interest in learning the importance of transparency in campaign finance and lobbying, and knowledge of filer types, filing schedules and disclosure forms required by the Political Reform Act.
