The City of Wauchula is currently accepting applications for Apprentice Lineman, levels 1, 2, and 3.

Final placement and start pay will depend on the applicant’s skills, experience, and qualifications.

Apprentice Lineman 1
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned dictated by operational necessity.
Working under the direction of a Lineman and Apprentice 3 & 2, the responsibilities for an individual filling this position include the following:
· Climbs poles and operates all equipment associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of the electrical distribution system.
· Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
· Assists Lineman as a ground man.
· Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit as directed by Linemen.
· Assists in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, motors, and transformers.
· Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
· Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope. Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
· Replaces or repairs poles, cross-arms, wire, transformers, OCR’s, switches, arrestors, streetlights, and other distribution equipment.
· Install and repairs primary and secondary metering.
· Maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
· Disassembles defective electrical equipment, replaces defective or worn parts, and reassembles equipment.
· Traces out short circuits in wiring.
· Performs limited repairs to power transmission equipment and lines.
· Installs “C.T.’s” and “P.T.’s” with instrument metering.
· Works closely with Linemen to achieve journeyman status.
· Must be able to comply with scheduling requirements, including working on-call.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
· Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the line crews, including peers, superiors, subordinates.
· Must be able to communicate effectively with the public.

Education and Experience:
· Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in electrical distribution technology; or
· Documentation of completion of formal electrical distribution technology basic program; and
· One (1) years’ experience and/or training.

Certificates and Licenses: · Must hold valid Class B commercial driver’s license.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned dictated by operational necessity.
· Assists the Electrical Distribution Supervisor and Journeyman with planning new or modified electrical distribution system installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and established trade standards and codes.
· Assists the Electrical Distribution Supervisor and Journeyman with preparing sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that all completed work complies with established trade standards and codes.
· Climbs poles and operates all equipment associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of the electrical distribution system.
· Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
· Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
· Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
· Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
· Replaces or repairs poles, cross-arms, wire, transformers, OCR’s, switches, arrestors, streetlights, and other distribution equipment.
· Install and repairs primary and secondary metering.
· Provides guidance and job supervision to Linemen 2, Linemen 3, and Tree Trimmer, and makes decisions on minor problems that arise on the job site.
· Must be able to comply with scheduling requirements, including working on-call.
· Maintain traffic control systems.

Certificates and Licenses: Must hold valid Class B commercial driver’s license.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has limited supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Journeyman over other members of the line crew, including Apprentice 2, Apprentice 3, Groundman & Tree Trimmer, and the laborer(s) assigned to tree trimming duties.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.70 - $39.07 per hour
