Architectural Designer

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Architectural Designer to lead the architectural, technical, and creative direction of a custom luxury steel fenestration company. This role is responsible for overseeing all design, documentation, and technical coordination from concept through fabrication and installation.The ideal candidate combines strong architectural design expertise with hands-on fabrication knowledge and proven leadership ability. This position serves as one of the primary design leads and a technical point of contact between clients, internal production teams, and external partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design & Architectural Leadership

• Lead the architectural and technical design department of a luxury steel fenestration manufacturer.
• Prepare comprehensive design documents, including renderings, plans, elevations, sections, and details.
• Interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings to ensure system compatibility.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and regulatory standards.
• Produce commercial and residential construction document sets.
• Oversee constructability reviews and technical coordination.

Production & Technical Coordination

• Prepare client approval packets and shop drawings for manufacturing.
• Produce fabrication-ready drawings and files for laser, CNC, and waterjet operations.
• Generate material takeoffs, hardware requirements, and assist with fabrication packages.
• Coordinate powder coating, glass, and specialty vendor orders.
• Support troubleshooting during design, production and installation.

Project Management & Client Relations

• Serve as a technical liaison between clients, contractors, architects, and internal teams.
• Assist with client meetings/phone calls and technical presentations.
• Manage approvals, revisions, and change orders.
• Assist with tracking project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
• Provide project specific installation documentation and field support.

Design Department Leadership

• Lead and manage the design department’s workflow and priorities.
• Oversee 3D design staff and manage department output.
• Establish and maintain design standards, templates, and documentation systems.
• Review and approve all outgoing design and shop documentation.
• Coordinate across design, fabrication, sales, and installation teams.
• Participate in leadership planning and company strategy.
• Assist with overseeing production timelines in coordination with the manufacturing team.

Systems & Documentation

• Maintain technical libraries, CAD/BIM standards, and templates.
• Organize digital project documentation and archives.
• Develop internal best-practice guides and workflows.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• 3-5+ years of experience in architectural design, fabrication, or specialty construction.
• Proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling software (AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Adobe, Fusion 360, Revit, Etc.).
• Highly organized and self-motivated.
• Strong project management abilities.
• Proven leadership and team management experience.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
• Able to multi-task and succeed in a fast paced environment.
• Creative and critical problem solving skills.
• Eagerness to learn and participate in various tasks - both within and outside of defined daily responsibilities

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
• Experience in high-end residential and commercial architectural design.
• Understanding of building codes and construction documentation standards.
• Design for custom metal fabrication experience
• Custom door & window fluency
• Knowledge of CNC, laser cutting, and waterjet workflows.
• Experience with product development and proprietary systems.
• Graphic design and visual presentation skills.

Pay: From $62,425.79 per year
