Architectural Designer

We are seeking an architectural designer to complement our established professional staff in our relaxed, collaborative, and dog-tastic studio environment in Pittsburgh, PA!

Established in 1989 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as preservation-based practice Gerald Lee Morosco Architects, PC now enjoys a strong regional and growing national reputation for exceptional design, attention to detail, and excellence in project execution. Our practice has evolved such that the majority of our work is now residential and small-scale commercial design work.

Additionally, we have sustained our commitment towards the revitalization of urban neighborhoods and traditional downtowns. In pursuit of that commitment, we believe that good architecture and existing community structure should be respected, preserved, and incorporated as an essential part of any new design solution.

Gerald Lee Morosco trained traditionally by way of apprenticeship at Taliesin. By way of his experience, we have deliberately developed a strong educational culture of “learning by doing” within our practice. Interns and registered architects alike are encouraged to seek out a broad range of practical experiences and continuing education opportunities within the professional environment of our active architectural practice to complement their traditional educations.

The ideal candidate(s) should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills or abilities:

  • Exceptional verbal, written and graphic communication skills, including hand drafting and freehand drawing.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills and experience in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUP, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, & Rendering Software (Twinmotion, Enscape, Lumion, etc.).
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the profession.
  • Verbal & written communication skills.
  • Organizational and time management ability.
  • Ability to ask questions and seek input when needed.
  • Strong interest in residential, restaurants, commercial, and interior design projects.
  • Strong interest in pursuing professional licensure with direct support from in-house staff.
  • Experience and ability to understand and coordinate construction drawings.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Coordinating with in-house architects and design team members.
  • Prepares and modifies architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc. as directed by others.
  • Participating in design meetings.
  • Coordinating and communicating with engineers, consultants and contractors.
  • Preparing of meeting minutes, emails and other forms of written communication.
  • Measuring of existing field conditions and preparation of Existing Conditions drawings.
  • Drafting and 3D modeling of design.
  • Researching and coordinating zoning and building permit information.
  • Preparing and assembling marketing material, such as qualifications or proposal packages.
  • Assisting and managing the development of all phases of construction documentation with support and participation from the in-house design team members and architects.
  • Organizing and managing the performance of architectural services in connection with projects.

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates for this position must:

  • Be in process of attaining or have completed a professional degree in Architecture – B.S/B.A./M.A.
  • 1-4 years of professional experience
  • Enjoy occasional dog tail wags, belly rubs, and pets. (Two super friendly and sweet dogs in-office daily)
  • Part-time/Full-time position(s) available.
