Area Manager

Overview

Amazon is looking for bright leaders to lead large non-exempt teams across our fulfillment network. This is not a corporate, office-based position. This is a full-time role located within one of our Amazon fulfillment centers, sort centers, delivery stations or other operations buildings. Amazon provides extensive training and development for entry level managers to become exceptional people leaders. As an Area Manager, you will be on the front lines of our customer promise, leading a large team of Amazon Associates to ensure on-time delivery of customer orders. You will invest in others, develop a collaborative leadership style, and utilize tools, processes, and operations that support a customer-centric company. Fulfillment involves completing or fulfilling a customer's order through picking, packing, shipping, and delivering to meet or exceed expectations. Our workflow includes three major lanes: first mile (housed and ready for orders), second mile (hauled to your area), and last mile (delivered to the customer's door). Our fulfillment centers are fast-paced environments where standing, walking, and on-the-floor conversations are common for a visible supply chain leader.

Responsibilities

As an Area Manager, you will lead and develop your own team of Amazon Associates in a distribution warehouse environment. Your main focus will be motivating, mentoring, and managing your team to meet targeted goals. You will ensure the team has the tools needed to succeed and maintain high levels of safety, quality, and attendance. Key job responsibilities include:

  • Communicate policies and act as the primary information source for your team, maintaining compliance and consistency and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Create, manage and support recognition programs.
  • Support safety programs and OSHA compliance to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ensure procedures are followed for building security and product loss prevention.
  • Partner with the management team to establish and maintain quality control standards.
  • Develop performance goals and targets to meet customer demand and ensure accuracy and quality.
Candidate Requirements

Must be able to perform the following tasks, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours.
  • Access all areas of building including ladders, stairs, gangways and shipping docks safely.
  • Walk in/around all areas of the warehouse with great frequency.
  • Willing and able to work shift patterns that may include nights, weekends, and/or holidays based on business needs. Note that there is a high chance that your shift may overlap into part of the weekend or be overnight.
  • Regularly bend, lift, stretch and reach both below the waist and above the head.
  • Lift and move items up to 49 pounds.
A day in the life

As an Operations Area Manager I, you lead teams by driving work from preparation through execution. Each shift, you set clear priorities, motivate associates and support operations while conducting safety observations and maintaining engagement. You balance operational demands with a safe, energized, and inclusive environment. You manage daily task allocation, solve defined problems and communicate decisions to senior leaders. You deliver customer results by managing resources, auditing workflows and ensuring SLA adherence. Through coaching, 1:1s, and performance evaluations, you develop talent, support career growth, and build a cohesive, high-performing team.
