JOB SUMMARY:

The Art Director is a senior creative leadership role reporting to the Senior Director, Content and Creative, within CARE USA’s Marketing team. This position is responsible for directing the visual development and execution of integrated campaigns, brand initiatives, and high-visibility marketing and fundraising deliverables.
Acting as a strategic execution partner, the Art Director translates creative strategy defined by senior leadership into scalable visual frameworks, ensuring consistency, quality, and impact across channels and platforms. The role holds defined authority over campaign-level art direction and visual execution, design standards within assigned initiatives, and the supervision of creative contributors and external partners.


The Art Director serves as a key creative decision-maker within defined project and campaign scope, balancing brand integrity, audience impact, and operational realities while enabling efficient production and strong creative outcomes. Under the direction of the Senior Director, this role contributes to the evolution of CARE’s visual expression and supports the operationalization of the Communications Center of Excellence and emerging creative technologies.

Visual Direction & Campaign Art Direction

  • Lead visual direction and art direction for assigned campaigns, initiatives, and priority marketing programs from concept through execution
  • Develop visual frameworks and design approaches aligned with creative strategy defined by senior leadership
  • Translate briefs and strategic goals into cohesive visual storytelling across channels and formats
  • Provide art direction to internal teams, freelancers, and agency partners to ensure quality and consistency of visual execution
  • Recommend visual approaches and creative solutions that support campaign objectives while maintaining brand integrity


Brand Stewardship & Creative Quality

  • Maintain day-to-day oversight of visual brand application across design and video deliverables
  • Ensure adherence to CARE’s Global Brand Standards across assigned initiatives and programs
  • Provide guidance and consultation to cross-functional teams on brand application and visual consistency
  • Review creative outputs for brand compliance within assigned programs and provide recommendations


People Leadership & Creative Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor designers and creative contributors across assigned initiatives
  • Assign work, establish creative direction within defined campaign scope, and provide structured feedback
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance feedback in partnership with the Senior Director
  • Support professional development and capability growth across the design team


Creative Operations, Production Leadership, Innovation

  • Direct production workflows across assigned initiatives, ensuring efficiency and quality
  • Manage external creative vendors, freelancers, and agencies to support delivery and timeline
  • Identify process improvements that enable scalable creative output and cross-functional collaboration
  • Support integration of AI-enabled creative tools and operational systems
  • Monitor emerging design, video, and creative technology trends
  • Introduce relevant tools and approaches that enhance production and storytelling
  • Contribute insights that support the evolution of CARE’s creative capabilities and workflows

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, advertising, marketing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in graphic design, art direction, or visual communications
  • Demonstrated experience providing creative direction for brands, campaigns, or organizations
  • Proven ability to translate brand strategy into high-quality creative execution
  • Experience supervising and mentoring designers and creative contributors
  • Experience working with agencies, vendors, and freelancers
  • Strong collaboration experience with writers, strategists, producers, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting large-scale brand systems or global organizations
  • Experience with video, motion, or animation workflows
  • Experience operationalizing creative processes or centers of excellence
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled creative tools and workflows
Motion design tools (After Effects)
  • Digital asset management systems
  • Collaborative design platforms and templates
