Assistant Bookkeeper

Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Bookkeeper to join our dynamic finance team. In this vital role, you will support the accurate recording and reconciliation of financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies. Your contributions will help maintain the integrity of our financial data, facilitate smooth month-end closings, and support various accounting functions across diverse sectors including corporate, non-profit, and governmental organizations. Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining accurate general ledger entries using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations to ensure consistency between bank statements and ledger records.
  • Prepare journal entries for various financial transactions, including debits & credits, ensuring adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes by verifying invoices, processing payments, and tracking outstanding balances.
  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliation to verify asset, liability, and equity account accuracy regularly.
  • Assist with payroll processing and related tax filings in compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Help prepare financial reports and summaries for management review, including budget analysis and financial report writing.
  • Support audit preparation by organizing documentation related to general ledger accounting and account analysis.
  • Contribute to maintaining accurate records of double entry bookkeeping activities and general ledger activities.
  • Engage in special projects such as budget development, financial software updates, or process improvements as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or Quicken is essential; familiarity with other financial tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles including GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and journal entries.
  • Experience with governmental or non-profit accounting is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of bank reconciliation procedures, account reconciliation techniques, and balance sheet reconciliation processes.
  • Ability to perform 10 key typing accurately for data entry tasks.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing systems and tax compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail for account analysis and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Strong communication skills to assist in financial report writing and collaborative team efforts.
