Assistant Controller

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join our team in Honolulu, Hawaii. This role is pivotal in managing daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and overseeing a dedicated accounting team. Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily accounting operations and provide strong leadership to the accounting team.

• Manage and review month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.

• Prepare accurate financial statements and assist in reporting to the board of directors.

• Ensure compliance with payroll processing regulations and oversee related controls.

• Coordinate audit preparation activities and recommend improvements to internal policies and procedures.

• Mentor and train accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

• Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the workplace.

• Assist in the development and implementation of budgeting and forecasting processes.

• Collaborate cross-departmentally to ensure financial accuracy and transparency.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of financial close processes and general accounting principles.
• Proven experience in supervising teams and managing deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency in account reconciliations, financial reporting, and payroll regulations.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and supporting a diverse workplace.
• Preferred qualifications include CPA or CMA candidacy, nonprofit accounting experience, and familiarity with donor funds and audit preparation.
