Assistant Editor – Ashburn Magazine

Ashburn Magazine is growing and is seeking a part-time assistant editor to help guide our award-winning, high-end publication. The assistant editor will work closely with our founding editor on numerous elements of the magazine’s content and production, including:

• Developing content ideas
• Overseeing and generating content for the “Around Ashburn” section.
• Writing additional in-depth feature articles as required.
• Helping to manage the production process, including obtaining photographs, writing cutlines and proofreading pages.
• Posting content to the magazine’s website and social media pages

The ideal candidate will have experience in local journalism or magazine journalism – either as an editor or writer – and will live in or near the Ashburn area of Loudoun County or be intimately familiar with that community. We are not a generic lifestyle magazine – this is a magazine about the people and businesses specifically in Ashburn.

This is a part-time, work-from-home position, and you can generally make your own hours, although during production week you must be available during regular business hours.

• Strong understanding of AP style and journalistic writing standards.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Proven editing, proofreading, and copy editing skills.
• Knowledge of social media management platforms and content strategies.
• Ability to research thoroughly and verify facts accurately.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
