Our client, a well-established organization in the insurance / financial services sector, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Accounts professional to join their finance team. This role is ideal for candidates with strong expertise in life insurance accounting, IFRS reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Job Summary
The role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely maintenance of financial records, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting in line with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and local regulatory requirements. The position involves monthly closures, reconciliations, IFRS 17 reporting, actuarial data support, and coordination with auditors and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly and year-end closure of books of accounts.
- Oversee VAT filings in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and review IFRS 4 financial statements and MIS reports.
- Support the CFO in IFRS 17 financial statements and IFRS 4 to IFRS 17 reconciliations.
- Account for ECL provisions as per IFRS 9 and handle IFRS 16 lease accounting.
- Coordinate audits and implement audit recommendations.
2. Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
- Provide financial data for compliance, IFR, IFRS 17 reconciliations, and Economic Substance reporting.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and financial surveys to relevant authorities.
- Coordinate with Compliance and Risk teams on governance reports, regulatory submissions, and rating agency requirements.
- Ensure timely publication of audited and reviewed financial statements as per regulatory guidelines.
3. Actuarial, Fund & ULIP Accounting
- Prepare Life Fund workings, cashflows, and fund value reconciliations.
- Review ULIP fund trial balances and prepare combined financial statements.
- Coordinate with ULIP service providers, perform data quality checks, and reconciliations.
4. Budgeting, Analysis & MIS
- Assist in annual budget preparation, variance analysis, and trend reporting.
- Prepare MIS reports, board notes, presentations, and management dashboards.
- Handle large datasets with high accuracy and integrity.
5. Controls, Reconciliations & Coordination
- Review bank and contra reconciliations and monitor branch accounting activities.
- Ensure strong financial controls and timely monthly closures across branches.
- Act as a liaison with auditors, actuarial consultants, IT, and regulators.
- Support tax filings and year-end system rollovers.
6. Systems & Process Improvement
- Test ERP and accounting system enhancements and ensure data accuracy.
- Recommend automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Maintain structured digital records and financial models.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance.
- Experience:
- Minimum 13+ years at managerial level.
- 20+ years overall experience in life insurance accounting, financial reporting, and audit coordination.
- Strong hands-on experience in IFRS implementation (including IFRS 17), ULIP accounting, and regulatory reporting is essential.
- Prior experience within the insurance or financial services sector is highly preferred.
