Department: Supply Chain / Logistics / Imports
Location: Lahore
Employment Type: Full-Time

Role Overview:

The Assistant Import Manager supports and oversees the daily functions of the import department, ensuring the smooth execution of import operations in line with organizational goals and compliance regulations. This position bridges tactical operations with strategic planning, offering leadership and hands-on problem-solving across the full import lifecycle — from vendor coordination to customs clearance and internal stakeholder alignment.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Execution

  • Supervise and manage end-to-end import operations: documentation, customs clearance, freight coordination, and delivery timelines.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of import documentation (BL, COO, invoices, packing list, etc.).
  • Monitor and track shipments, providing regular updates to internal departments and flagging exceptions proactively.

Vendor & Freight Coordination

  • Liaise with international suppliers, freight forwarders, CHAs (Customs House Agents), and other logistics partners.
  • Negotiate freight rates, analyze shipping options, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives without compromising on delivery timelines.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure strict adherence to customs regulations, foreign trade policies, and company SOPs.
  • Stay updated with DGFT, EXIM, and international trade norms and flag any regulatory changes.
  • Coordinate audits and maintain up-to-date import records for legal and financial reviews.

Team Support & Escalation Handling

  • Mentor junior import executives and ensure proper delegation of tasks.
  • Handle escalations related to delayed shipments, documentation errors, or compliance issues.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Analyze import trends, freight costs, and lead times to generate actionable insights.
  • Prepare and present reports to the Import Manager and senior leadership as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field. MBA preferred.
  • 4–7 years of progressive experience in import operations, preferably in a mid to large-scale organization.
  • Deep understanding of import/export procedures, HS codes, INCOTERMS, shipping practices, and trade compliance.
  • Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and advanced Excel reporting.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills
  • Process-driven mindset with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
  • Analytical thinker with problem-solving capability
  • Adaptability and resilience under pressure
