Workweek: M-F 8:30 AM-4:30 PM (40 hours), as needed

The Office of Municipal Prosecutor of Jersey City is looking for an Assistant Municipal Prosecutor to represent the
State of New Jersey and the City of Jersey City in the prosecution of all criminal offenses, traffic violations, and quality of life ordinances. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated belief in the power of prosecuting attorneys to be pro-active, progressive, and problem-solving members of the community with a positive effect on the quality of life.
Job Duties:
Conducts trials and pretrial hearings.
Prepares cases for trial and negotiates plea agreements.
Prepares written motions, pleadings, arguments, code enforcement search warrants, and other legal memoranda.
Reviews cases for negotiations, witnesses, and discovery.
Works on projects assigned by the Chief Municipal Prosecutor.
Participates in ongoing legal education to remain up-to-date on criminal law.
Work closely with the City’s code enforcement offices on best practices for quality of life enforcement.

Required Educational Background: Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey.
Required Experience: Three (3) years of relevant experience in governance, enforcement, law compliance, and/or emergency services.
Essential Skills:
Knowledge of and ability to interpret state criminal statutes, municipal ordinances, and related case law.
Ability to plan and put into operation the necessary legal steps on behalf of the municipality in important local prosecutions.
Demonstrated commitment to social and criminal justice and their current trends.
