Paralegal/Victim Witness Coordinator

This position is responsible for providing clerical, administrative, and legal support to the Craighead County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. This position will serve five (5) Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys (DPAs).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

1. Prepare motions, legal documents, draft letters, plea paperwork, and maintain files for Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and staff. This duty is performed daily.

2. E-filing of court documents. This duty is performed daily.

3. Assist with public relations, including answering phone calls, emails, and visitors to the office. This duty is performed daily.

4. Assist in court on each scheduled court date.

5. Prepare and issue Hospital Records Act Subpoenas and ensure medical records are received and filed under seal by the Circuit Clerk’s Office in accordance with the time required by law.

6. Prepare and issue all out-of-state subpoenas within the time required by law.

7. Assist in the maintenance of electronic and paper files, both open and closed.

8. Prepare documents and pleading for Governor’s warrants (extradition paperwork).

9. Prepare and maintain all records and court dates for bond forfeitures, including drafting of orders, and satisfaction of judgment.

10. Schedule all Zoom court hearings, and forward information to the appropriate parties.

11. Prepare and maintain documents for Petitions for Revocation.

12. Prepare and maintain motion binders as instructed.

13. Perform legal research.

14. Prepare legal documents, letters, and memos from drafts or dictation.

15. Prepare interview transcriptions as directed by DPAs.

16. Maintain knowledge of the Arkansas Rules of Professional Conduct for
Attorneys and the application of those rules to Paralegal/Legal Assistant tasks.

17. Assist in drafting jury instructions under the direction of the Prosecuting
Attorney Case Administrator.

18. Coordinating mental health, substance abuse, and drug and alcohol commitments under the direction of the DPA.

19. Coordinating 911 cases, hearings, etc., under the direction of the DPA.

20. Drafting initial case narratives and criminal background in arrest cases.

21. Managing specialty court docket.

21. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

Extensive knowledge of the legal field. College degree in paralegal studies,
English or related field and/or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a paralegal or legal assistant. Graduate of an ABA certified paralegal program preferred.

Communication Skills

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with clients, the public and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

Critical Thinking Skills

Ability to utilize common sense understanding to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.

Valid drivers license.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT
Occasionally responsible for organization's property where carelessness, error, or misappropriation would result in moderate damage or moderate monetary loss to the organization. The total value for the above would range from $5,000 to
$150,000.

ACCURACY
Probable errors of internal and external scope would have a major effect on the operational efficiency of the organizational component concerned. Errors might possibly go undetected for a considerable period, thereby creating an inaccurate picture of an existing situation. Could cause further errors, losses, or embarrassment to the organization. The possibility for error is always present due to requirements of the job.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
