The Department of Surgery provides comprehensive and sub-specialty care in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dental-Oral, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics Surgery, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Pediatrics Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Vascular Surgery. The department has 120 full-time and part-time faculty with a solid commitment to teaching and research. Formal structured undergraduate teaching, postgraduate residency, and fellowship programmes are integrated into the academic functions of the department.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor, Congenital Cardiac Surgery. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced surgeon to join our dynamic and expanding program. This is a full-time faculty position with opportunities for clinical leadership, academic growth, and collaborative practice.

We provide a collaborative, supportive environment with a strong culture of teamwork, including dual surgeon operating and structured MDT planning in partnership with paediatric cardiology. The department has a proven record of fostering the professional growth and development of its faculty.

The successful candidate will be expected to serve as Clinical Lead for the department.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

• provide independent consultant-level surgical services, including complex neonatal, paediatric, and adult congenital cardiac procedures
• undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, mentorship, and training of medical students and residents
• contribute to research, publications, and academic scholarship
• participate in departmental administration and leadership activities
• actively engage in multidisciplinary team (MDT) planning and collaborative operative care.

Requirements

You should have:

• minimum two years’ experience as Senior Instructor (or equivalent), with evidence of scholarship through research, publications, and/or contributions to education
• fellowship or certification (FCPS, FRCS, American Board, or equivalent) with completed postgraduate training in a recognised program
• significant independent consultant-level experience in congenital cardiac surgery across a wide spectrum of procedures
• experience in teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• active participation in regular clinical audit
• supervisory experience in guiding junior staff research
• relevant higher degree preferred.
