Detailed Responsibilities – Purchase Manager (Cables Industry)

• Procurement & Sourcing
• Identify, evaluate, and finalize reliable suppliers for cables, conductors, wires, and accessories.
• Handle procurement of raw materials such as copper, aluminum, PVC, XLPE, steel tapes, and insulation materials.
• Float RFQs (Request for Quotation), compare technical-commercial offers, and prepare negotiation sheets.
• Vendor Development & Management
• Develop new vendors to reduce dependency on a single source.
• Maintain long-term relationships with key cable manufacturers and suppliers.
• Conduct supplier audits for quality, delivery reliability, and compliance with industry standards (IS/IEC/ASTM).
• Cost Control & Negotiation
• Negotiate price contracts considering market volatility of copper/aluminum.
• Lock long-term rate contracts for stable procurement.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternate suppliers, bulk procurement, and optimized logistics.
• Inventory & Material Planning
• Forecast material requirements based on project pipeline and production schedules.
• Coordinate with stores to maintain optimum stock levels and avoid shortages.
• Implement Just-in-Time (JIT) procurement strategies where feasible.
• Quality & Compliance
• Ensure that all procured materials meet technical specifications, safety, and compliance standards.
• Work closely with the Quality Assurance team for pre-dispatch inspections and material approvals.
• Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, legal requirements, and ethical practices.
• Market Intelligence & Reporting
• Track global and domestic trends in copper, aluminum, and polymer prices affecting cable costs.
• Prepare periodic procurement reports for management on cost savings, vendor performance, and market updates.
• Benchmark cable pricing across multiple suppliers for competitive advantage.
• Coordination & Support
• Liaise with project teams to ensure timely delivery of cables for site execution.
• Coordinate with finance for supplier payments, credit terms, and reconciliation.
• Support R&D/Engineering in sourcing special/customized cables.
• Team & Process Management
• Lead and mentor a small procurement team.
• Implement ERP/Procurement software for streamlined purchasing.
• Continuously improve procurement processes for efficiency and transparency.

Skills & Knowledge:

• In-depth knowledge of LV, MV, HV & EHV cables, joints, and terminations.
• Understanding of raw material procurement (copper, aluminum, PVC, XLPE, etc.).
• Strong negotiation and vendor development skills.
• ERP/Procurement software experience (SAP, Oracle, Tally, etc.).
• Market awareness of cable industry trends and pricing fluctuations.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.

Qualification:

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• MBA in Materials Management / Supply Chain (added advantage).
• 5+ years of proven experience in procurement within the cables industry.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per month
