Zarrar & Co. is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) with six years of practical experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in cost estimation, quantity takeoff, and preparation of Bills of Quantities (BOQ). This role requires proficiency in interpreting AutoCAD drawings and construction plans to accurately calculate quantities and assist in controlling project costs. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will coordinate closely with vendors and contractors to manage billing and verify material usage, ensuring compliance with project budgets and timelines.

This position emphasizes effective communication and coordination across project teams to facilitate accurate record keeping and timely reporting. The candidate must demonstrate a solid understanding of rate analysis, variation orders, and site coordination to support successful project delivery. While this role does not involve managing a team, it demands a proactive approach in collaborating with multiple stakeholders and maintaining meticulous documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and measurements from drawings and project plans to support accurate cost estimation.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) with clear descriptions and calculations to facilitate project budgeting and procurement.
  • Verify materials on-site to ensure compliance with specified quantities and quality, coordinating with procurement and site teams.
  • Assist in processing vendor and contractor billing, ensuring accuracy against contract terms and approved quantities.
  • Conduct rate analysis to determine accurate unit costs for materials and labor, supporting cost control measures.
  • Monitor and process variation orders by assessing changes in project scope and their impact on budget and timeline.
  • Coordinate with site engineers and project managers to ensure smooth communication and effective resolution of quantity-related issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive and organized records including contracts, BOQs, billing documents, and correspondence for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Generate regular reports on quantity survey status, cost updates, and potential risks to keep management informed.
  • Utilize advanced Excel functions to manage and update BOQ sheets and other quantity survey documentation efficiently.
  • Read and interpret AutoCAD drawings to understand project requirements and assist in accurate quantity calculations.
  • Support cost control efforts by identifying discrepancies, potential overages, and opportunities for savings throughout project execution.
