Assistant Teacher

Overview

Your passion for early childhood development and special education will make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities and autism. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to grow professionally while supporting children’s educational journeys from preschool through early childhood stages.

Duties

  • Assist lead teachers in implementing curriculum plans tailored to individual student needs, including literacy, math, and social skills development
  • Support classroom management by encouraging positive behavior and facilitating a safe, respectful environment for all children
  • Help prepare educational materials and adapt lesson plans to accommodate children with disabilities or special needs, including those with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs)
  • Engage children in activities that promote language development, fine and gross motor skills, and social interaction using techniques such as American Sign Language (ASL) when appropriate
  • Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and rest periods to ensure safety and well-being
  • Maintain clear communication with parents and guardians regarding children’s progress and classroom events

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with children in preschool, childcare, or early childhood education settings is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of childhood development principles and classroom management techniques
  • Ability to develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate literacy education, math skills, and sensory activities
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn is a plus
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, children, and families
  • Experience with curriculum development tailored to diverse learners and classroom experience in private or Montessori schools is advantageous
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that supports the growth of all students

Pay: $17.00 - $17.50 per hour
